Highlights for 2017-18

  • Students worked on citing text evidence when responding to reading, read complex text in a shared reading format, and utilized sentence stems to increase students’ ability to talk about math.
  • Continued focus on building math vocabulary.
  • Introduced RULER Anchor Tools of emotional intelligence.
  • Established daily class meetings for social-emotional learning and class problem-solving.
  • Emphasized alternative discipline by establishing reset room for regulation, problem-solving and repair work.
  • Enhanced school spirit by celebrating sustained and improved behavior.
  • Established school’s attendance committee to track and support chronically absent students and families.
  • Re-constituted our bilingual PTA.
  • Continued monthly community breakfasts to inform families of current events, listen to their concerns and answer questions
  • Expanded the Families and Teachers Working Together program into 1st grade.
  • Offered dual language only program at K-2nd grade.
  • Studied best ways to support students served in dual language and special education.

Plans for 2018-19

  • Students will use graphic organizers to compare two texts and continue to access complex texts through shared reading and close reading lessons.
  • Students will learn and practice skills, techniques and concepts in order to successfully start, stick with and solve complex math word problems.
  • Learn and adopt culturally-responsive teaching practices to build relationships that positively impact student academic performance.
  • Establish restorative practices schoolwide to maintain and repair our sense of community.
  • Strengthen RULER Anchor Tools of emotional intelligence.
  • Strengthen class meetings to include repair work as classmates problem-solve.
  • Continue productive and meaningful partnership with PTA
  • Expand the Families and Teachers Working Together program to include 2nd grade.
  • Continue our parenting classes for neighborhood families with children 0-3 (GLEA).
  • Establish an attendance “caseload” of chronically absent students to study and support, this work began in September.
  • Offer dual language only program at K-3rd grade.
