Evaluating Student Experiences

A culture of belonging where all students feel welcome, safe and valued is critical to academic achievement.

To learn more about student experiences at school, we ask students for their feedback using a survey administered by Panorama Education. Students evaluate their school and classroom environments and the support the school provides them.

Teachers evaluate students' skills in grades K-2. Students in grades 3-12 are asked to reflect on their own skills. Survey participants respond using a likert scale. For instance, possible responses may be almost never, once in a while, sometimes, frequently or almost all the time.

Why is student feedback important?

Highline values feedback from our students and uses feedback to refine school culture and instructional experiences. The survey provides information about students’ perceptions of their skills in areas like managing conflict, relationship building with peers, and understanding their emotions. With this information, teachers will provide more tailored, high quality, rigorous learning experiences that meet the needs of our students and prepare them for the future they choose.

When do students take the survey and how long does it take?

How do teachers and schools use the results?

Administrators use the data to identify school-level strengths, areas that need more focus, and programming needs to enhance the school experience. The survey also provides a look at areas in which students may need extra support. Teachers may collect more information to understand students' strengths and needs. This information helps teachers work with parents/guardians to plan targeted instruction or intervention if needed. Results support skill development for whole classrooms, small groups or individual students.
